Interview with Lil Texas about American Hardcore, being a 200BPM cowboy & future plans.

Lil Texas is all the hype these days! But who is this wild American anyway and how on Earth did he skyrocket into Hardcore’s stratosphere at lightning speed?! For those who want all the deets about this up and coming 200BPM spokesman, then read on, as we get to know Lil Texas a lil better!

Lil Texas! Whatʼs up?! Whatʼs going on?

What up! I’m super good busy as hell but busy is good. Working my ass off everyday.

First of all, can you give all our readers a quick Lil Texas introduction?

Well for those of you who are unfamiliar I’m the 200 BPM cowboy hailing from the USA. I’m a Nü- Metal enthusiast, I love terrible reality TV, Paris Hilton, rhinestones, horror movies, hardcore, uptempo, rawstyle, and terror of all varieties.

Can you tell us the story of how Lil Texas fell in love with Hardcore?

It would have to go back almost 8 years when my friend showed me Thunderdome 1997 on YouTube. I tremendously admired the impact the culture had on music during that era and still to this day. After that, I just listened to Hardcore and wasn’t producing it at all. I was at a point where I wanted to quit music entirely and I wasn’t having fun making the music I was making at the time. I decided it was time for a change; I’d been listening to so much hardcore that I decided I would take shot at making it. And well, the rest is history. People really seemed to like my unique take on the genre and here we are. I’m happy producing again and have never been more passionate and excited about music as I am now.

What was the first Hardcore track you ever heard and what did it do for you?

The first hardcore track I ever heard that really resonated with me was Lenny Dee – Fuckin Hostile in Lola de Musica’s 1995 Gabber documentary. The Pantera sample had me hooked.

How did you get in touch with the Dutch scene?

Social media! I just started following producers I fucked with and would tag them in videos when I would drop their tunes at EDM festivals in The States. Most people’s reaction was something like “Whoa! I didn’t know you got down like that.” Also including lots of Dutch, Italian, and Spanish (etc) tracks in my mix series got me in touch with lots of new friends.

Whatʼs the Hardcore scene in America like?

Well the scene has existed since the 90s with guys like Rob Gee, Lenny Dee, Omar Santana, and Delta 9 to name a few and thereʼs been hardcore parties ever since. Lately the big festivals have caught on to the new wave of producers and are including hard dance stages again (there used to be a hard dance stage at EDC in the 90s and 2000s). Currently, the festival I’m playing in Texas called Freaky Deaky is having a Hardstyle/Hardcore stage for the first time this year! We’re making moves, not to mention big American Dj’s like Kayzo, Marshmello, and Valentino Khan dropping my stuff in their sets has made a major impact.

Your style of performing and branding is very unique for a Hardcore artist. Can you share more about the importance of being ‘differentʼ?

I’m extremely influenced by things outside of music; fashion and graphic design being two of the major things. I like to incorporate the outlandish, counter intuitive, strange, and unique into my image, clothing, photos, video, and album art. I express myself through my clothing choices… I mean, shit you gotta get dressed everyday, so might as well have fun with it. Being different will be met with adversity from the status quo, but I believe that over time it will make people relate to and enjoy your vibe more. Music and entertainment should be fun after all… I’m very serious about not taking myself too seriously.

Whatʼs the craziest thing youʼve ever done during a performance?

I’ve been going into the middle of the crowd during the last two songs and raging with everyone. It’s honestly so fun.

Most memorable performance?

I’d have to say EDC Vegas 2019. I played the 4:30 – 5:30 AM set which was such a vibe seeing kids raging out at 200+ BPM as the sun came up.

Youʼve just been announced on the Snakepit line-up! How hyped are you?!

Literally can’t express my excitement. The whole line-up is comprised of my favorite artists.

What do you expect from Snakepit?

I try to keep no expectations before djing a party but… I know I’m going to feel like I’m at home.

Which artists would you like to collaborate with in the future?

Well I’ve got some big things under way already, but I think Andy the Core, Partyraiser, Furyan, Lady Dammage, Deadly Guns, Kayzo, Sullivan King, and Destructive Tendencies would be a legendary combination.

What are you currently working on in the studio?

I just finished another EP for Barong, so it’s collab time. I wish I could talk about it more but some of the names I’m working with are BIG and these tracks are going to melt faces.

What goals do you have for the next year?

DEFQON, Dominator, MOH, Australia and China tour, and my own headline tour in the States. Basically world domination.
